Henk Pardoel – Head Coach
Henk Pardoel started his coaching certification at the University of Alberta Fencing Club in 1981. He moved back to Kingston, his hometown, in the Fall of 1990 and started as an assistant coach to Dr. English at Queen’s University and at the Royal Military College (RMC). From 1990 to 1994 Henk was both a student-athlete and player-coach. With the retirement of Coach English in 1996 he assumed the role of Head Varsity Fencing Coach at Queen’s, and he remained as an assistant coach to Michael McDonnell at the Royal Military College, who had taken over the head coaching position from Dr. English. When Coach McDonnell transferred jobs in January 1999, Henk became the Head Coach for both the RMC and Queen’s Interuniversity fencing teams. He retired as Head Coach of the RMC team in 2001. In the summer of 2004, after a number of successful championship title wins, he stepped down as the Head Coach of the Queen’s team. As the Head Coach of the Kingston Fencing Club since 2002, and as an athlete/coach since 1981, Coach Henk is going into his 40 year of involvement with the sport of fencing.
